Update: Continued Support for Devika's Family
Nihon Kairali and WMF Japan continue to work with Devika's family and the Embassy of India on two fronts: returning her personal belongings, and securing more complete information about the circumstances of her passing.
Devika's Belongings Returned
Mr. A. J. Joy visited Devika's father in Kerala and personally handed over the belongings that were with Devika at the time of the incident.
Engagement with the Embassy of India
Representatives of Nihon Kairali and WMF Japan visited Mr. Dhiraj Mukhiya, Minister (Consular) at the Embassy of India, Tokyo, to discuss what additional support the Embassy could provide so that Devika's family can receive more detailed information about what happened to their daughter.
Three points came out of that meeting:
- CCTV footage: Honoring a request from Devika's father, the Minister (Consular) has agreed to write to the Japanese Foreign Ministry requesting access to CCTV footage of the incident.
- Return of documents: The Embassy has agreed to support sending Devika's documents back to Kerala once they are received from her employer.
- Employer negotiation: Nihon Kairali and WMF Japan have agreed to do the groundwork to help negotiate with the employer on behalf of Devika's parents, and will keep the Minister (Consular) and the Embassy informed of the outcome.
